O Poejo
Cherries of S. Julião in Eau de viePacking: glass bottles: net weight 450g, drained weight 260g
The cherries used are black, very sweet, with round shape, and weight between 5 and 8 g.
The cherry trees are located in the Parish of São Julião - Municipality of Portalegre (bordering the Municipality of Marvão) in an area with a privileged microclimate, being the result of interbreeding with wild cherry and the autochthonous varieties of the region of Portalegre.
The reputation hit by Cherry of São Julião (Portalegre) led to it being classified as Denomination of Protected Origin, being today its production controlled by OPC-AADP (Private Organization for Control and Certification - Association of Farmers of the District of Portalegre).
Harvesting occurs daily between mid-May to mid June, and the selected farmers provide Nunes Sequeira, SA picking the best cherry to deliver (the ones which are in the ideal point of maturation and without showing cracks or other defects).
The transformation process is then developed using a laborious and delicate process - which is complemented by the addition of brandy previously prepared with mixture of sugar, spices and other aromatic ingredients.
Without the addition of pigments or additives, cherries of São Julião (Portalegre) in brandy, are able to be consumed at the end of meals as an exceptional dessert, not under valuating the tasting of brandy as a delicious digestive.
